Spring Racing Carnival is back for another year and at Kaleidoscope, we are proud to continue our tradition of hosting an Oaks Day event for legal support staff across Melbourne!
Coming from a legal support background myself, I always envied the solicitors who were invited to functions all year round – they generally left at lunchtime and rarely returned. No legal secretary was ever invited (if they were it was to hand out marketing material or cross names off at the door), you were expected to stay in the office and hold down the fort.
Well we are turning the tables and have a “no lawyers allowed” rule! We want to treat legal secretaries, law clerks, receptionists, accounts clerks, IT staff and all other administrative staff to an event where the champagne flows freely and the sweeps are worth winning!
It’s a milestone for us this year as we celebrate hosting our 10th event! Over the years, hundreds of guests have attended to enjoy a couple of hours out of the office, gathering with friends and colleagues to network and catch up with others in the legal support industry. We’ve seen fascinators and dresses to compete with “fashions on the field” and guests who mark this event in their calendar annually to enjoy it in the same way they would at Flemington – merrily leaving in the afternoon with a pair of sensible flats!
Oaks Day, traditionally known as Ladies Day, is a fabulous, social occasion where racegoers soak up the glamorous atmosphere of the racing carnival. We bring this culture to our event by hosting the function at CQ Bar in a private function room – guests are treated to catered food, wine and champagne, televised races, free sweeps and we can only hope that the sun comes out to play as well!
For those who are lucky enough to be working in the CBD on Oaks Day, this is an event you can’t miss. I swear once you come, you will be a regular every year! Treat yourself, and if you are a lawyer reading this, treat your legal secretary and let them escape the office for a few hours – it’s the least you can do after all the times they have had to cover for you!
