What does a Law Librarian do?

Law librarians take part in tasks such as legal research, teaching and learning, information literacy, classification of library materials and archiving, to name just a few. Law librarians work with electronic online databases and other relevant sources such as textbooks, reference books and journals.

Alternatively, Library technicians tend to focus on the operational aspects of the library and information management. Tasks that they undertake can include organising and maintaining library resources, updating records and systems and retrieving information databases.

Qualifications and Experience

The Australian Law Librarian’s Association (ALLA) aims to promote and provide support to law librarians and the interests of law libraries. Members have access to continuing professional development, local networking events, podcasts and a network of experienced professional law librarians.
