Junior/Entry-Level Legal Administration Recruitment

As a legal recruitment agency, we love working with enthusiastic junior legal administrators to help them find admin jobs, and get their careers started. Depending on your individual situation, there are a range of junior administration and administrative assistant roles to look at, including

  • Office Services Assistant
  • Mailroom
  • Filing Clerk
  • Administration Assistant
  • Reception

As well as graduate secretarial positions and traineeships – we recruit for all of them!

Because our specialist recruiters have specific legal industry experience, we understand that taking the first step into a legal admin/support career can be difficult, as the legal industry requires knowledge of a unique set of processes and documents, on top of your general administration skills.

To help you get the best out of our legal administration recruitment process, we’ve set out a bit of information on how the early stages of your legal support career will work

Your Role as a Legal Administrator

Legal administrative staff members are the ones that hold the office together! Legal secretaries organise practitioners’ appointments and correspondence, ensure that important documents are made up properly and on time, manage files and data – and more, depending on the area of law and how much experience you have. It’s a busy, challenging and rewarding job.

Legal Administration Qualifications

The following courses will help you secure a legal administration job:

Although these qualifications are not absolutely necessary, we generally recommend doing some study as you get started.

Previous Administrative Experience

However, it is practical experience that really counts. Whether you have studied or not, we are here to help you find the right entry-level position to kick-off your legal administrative/support career. Your previous experience is really important to finding the right role and determining your salary, so this is what you should focus on when writing your CV or sending in an application.

The types of experience we look for can include work in other, non-legal office environments, where you will have developed skills in office procedures and meeting deadlines. However, it is best if you have spent time in a law firm, even just work experience, so you get to know the way they operate and the types of tasks legal administrators do.

How Much Do Legal Administrators Earn?

The salaries that legal support staff can earn vary according to individual circumstances, like their level of experience and the type of firm or team they are working in. Salary negotiation is something we can take care of for you. As specialist legal recruiters, we are experienced in making the best arrangement for both you and our clients. We are guided by the needs of both parties to find the right fit, and will always aim to negotiate the best possible salary.

Working With You

When we meet with you, we can work out which option is best for you. For example, if you have done some study but haven’t yet worked in a legal environment, we might discuss traineeships and graduate secretarial positions. If you’re a school leaver looking for your first administration job, we can look at an office junior or a role that provides training. If you’ve had 6-12 months working in a law firm, other junior legal administrative roles could be a good option. We can also talk about which area of law you want to concentrate on, and the sort of environment you like to work in, whether it’s top tier, mid tier, boutique or even in house.

If you’re working towards or just starting your career in legal admin/support, check our latest legal jobs page for the junior positions we have available now. Alternatively, just submit a CV directly, and we can talk to you about the best way to get started!

As specialist legal recruiters, we know the Melbourne and Sydney legal industry well and can provide you with the advice you need to make an informed decision about where to go next.
